Clayey sandstone

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Lies on the Agitmin Fm and all older deposits, up to the Cretaceous

Upper contact

With erosion overlain by the Sayat Fm.

Regional extent

Southwest Kyzylkum, South Pre-Aral. In the South Pre-Aral, the lower lacustrine aleurolite-clayey part of the section of the suite corresponds to the lower Akchagyl Kushkanatau suite, overlain with erosion by typically Dengizkul yellow-brown sands and sandstones. In the Pre-Aral, the Kushkanatau and Dengizkul suites are deeply embedded with lake-sea deposits of the upper Akchagyl Zair suite, which allows the Dengizkul suite to be conditionally referred to the n.-sr. Akchagyl (58; 166; 346). On the left bank of the Amu Darya in the Karakum, the same yellow-brown sands and sandstones are distinguished under the name Zaunguz suite.
